Gila River Indian Community – Saving Lives for Tomorrow

Funding: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS)
Partners: Gila River Indian Community (GRIC)
Program description: With federal funding authorized under the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, GRIC’s Saving Lives for Tomorrow program will focus on youth suicide prevention and early intervention services. All services will be provided within the context of the Gila River Indian Community’s beliefs and culture and will include identification of youth who are at risk (Teen Screen model), life skills training and peer leadership development activities directed towards youth. Additional grant funded services will include training for professionals so that they may more effectively respond to suicide ideation and/or attempts, training for first responders so that they are aware of programs and resources available, and social marketing to raise community awareness.
CABHP's Role: The Center will serve as the evaluator of this Tribal youth suicide prevention program.
